My name is Krystal.
The first thing you need to know about me is that I am stubborn. I don’t appear to be stubborn, but try to get me to put ice on an injury, and you’ll find out I’m pretty darn stubborn.
The second thing you need to know about me is that once upon a time, or more like 20 something years ago, my father saw me playing around with Microsoft Paint and made a comment to me that one could not really make good art using that program.
Now, considering the first thing you need to know about me, this makes the third thing you need to know fairly obvious. I don’t like to be told I can’t do something. Not illegal things, of course, but things like making art with Microsoft Paint.
At first, my father was proving to be right. My first creations looked like this:
I called this masterpiece, “Excuse Me Sir, Your Purple Ears are Bleeding on Me.”
There was also this:
I kept working and working and working, only using a mouse and my desktop computer paint program, putting my entire heart and soul into creating art using Microsoft Paint, mostly because I wanted to prove to my father that “Yes. I can make art with Microsoft Paint.”
Disclaimer: I’m actually incredibly close and have a very good relationship with my father. He calls me Squid (Squirt Kid). I call him Squad (Squirt Dad). He is a very good dad. He just happens to have a very stubborn daughter.
Before I knew it, I could do this:
Then, proving that old adage true that “You can do anything you put your mind to,” I kept getting better. Not that this was the most productive thing to put my mind to, but I learned to start making things like this:

I am aware that there are better tools to do this. I know programs like Photoshop exist to make this entire process easier. Heck, I know that markers and crayons would probably be easier. If you find yourself asking “Why didn’t she just try those better programs?” then I implore you to scroll up this page and revisit the first thing you need to know about me.
So I make art using very basic paint software programs. Now the mouse has been replaced with a laptop track pad. Nothing about this endeavor is fancy. Sometimes I have to erase and re-do things so many times that people around me cringe, because they know there are better programs to make art like this.
I suppose the other things you need to know about me are:
- Making silly art brings me joy.
- I like the color purple.
- I like coffee, possibly more than the color purple.
- I have a very strange sense of humor.
